Got a quick interview with one of The Residents eyeball after their Talking Light show at World Cafe Live. During the show, Mr Skull, who is now an old man/woman told the SRO crowd that Carlos, of the four members of the band had gone to Mexico. There were only three Residents on stage, but I did catch the green eyeball roaming around the crowd afterwards.

scanning the negatives. All the “hipsters” that were into the New Wave
Punk scene were at this historic show which I was lucky enough to
attend and drag my camera into. Back then, it was no problem to bring
in a 35mm camera with a telephoto lens, quite apparent from all the
tight shots I took. As was the case with many of these shows I
attended, it was off to the Drexel University Triangle darkroom to
develop the prints well into the night. One of the picks with Joe
Strummer was Ian Dury who came onto the stage to jam to a song but
can’t can’t remember, possibly Janie Jones.
We miss ya Joe!
Wild show last week at World Cafe Live with Fishbone. I’ve been lucky to have seen Fishbone many times in Philly dating back to Temple University Spring Fling 1988 with Red Hot Chilli Peppers. But one of my fave moments was watching lead singer Angelo Moore at the Trocadero in the early 90’s hit on my then girlfriend at the time while he was selling his book prior to the show.
I shot this with my Sanyo Xacti CG 10 and edited it with iMovie 09 but I regret not shooting in the 16×9 format.
This winter never seems to end as an epic storm is about to clobber Maryland and threatens to dump 6-12 inches of snow on Philadelphia. What better way to celebrate by hibernating in the house and posting a video that I shot on my waterproof Santo Xacti VPE-E1 last summer. This was also my first real attempt editing iMovie 09. I’ve been using iMovie HD for years but finally decided the benefits of 09 outweigh my beloved HD. Still Learning Final Cut Pro.
I’ve also joined a group of other Videobloggers that will try to post at least two times a month. Before you think I’m being mean to my dog Judy, I wanted to get her more comfortable with swimming in the event she ever went overboard on my boat. And I do put her in a life preserver when underway.

listened to music because their first album “Q: Are We Not Men? A: We
Are Devo! This album was the only one I played, flipping it over and
over again for at least a month. I don’t want to get into a big rant
about how groundbreaking the music was but rather just tell the tale
of a real quick meet up with Gerald Casale and Bob 2 Mothersbaugh.
The live concerts pix were taken with at the legendary Tower Theatre
late in 1978. These were the good old days when you could still bring
in SRL cameras into shows.
Fast forward to summer of 1979. The late DJ Ed Sciaky of WKDU, the
only Philly person to support new music in Philly, was going to do an
interview with DEVO who were in town to support their new album Duty
Now for the Future. I worked 2 floors below WIOQ at Benihana
Restaurant so it was often I would go upstairs and wait outside the
station till the interview was done and get an album autographed. On
this particular day, I marched up with my debut album and met Gerald
and Bob 2. Handing them the album and asking for an autograph, I
bluntly stated ‘this station doesn’t play your music, man”. To which
Gerald replied. “no one does Spud”.
I recently had the opportunity to meet Steve “ESPO” Powers on the last mural he was doing for
A Love Letter For You. The project was an ambitious program, funded by Pew Center for Art and Heritage with 50 murals to be painted along the western part of the Market Frankford EL running from 45th to 69th street. The last wall was atop the old WFIL Building now on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. This historic building hosted the original Bandstand with Dick Clark, later named American Bandstand when the show moved to Los Angeles. I’ll let Steve tell you the rest. And thanks to Jonny Goldstein for connecting me to this project and to Steve.
This was a bitter sweet homecoming for me, as I’d climbed onto this roof back in 1980 do a bit of mischief. Shhhh! Click the Quicktime or Flash button and enjoy!

Ferko was the final String Band of the day and was a crowd favorite, many family members were sitting in our section. They placed 2nd this year behind Fralinger.
Look for a Jimmy CraicHead, Polka Joe, & Cathy cameo at the end…of a very long day.
Happy New Years 2010
