Back In Berlin 2006! It’s been a long time a coming. I first traveled to then West Berlin by train from Frankfurt in 1984 with my brother Chris. Ever since “the wall” came down I’ve been waiting patiently for Germany to totally unify Berlin and my chance to go back happened this past August, joined by Demanda, whose great Tante Annelisle still lives in the former East Berlin. We were lucky to arrive in the new Berlin Hauptbahnhof which opened just prior to the World Cup. If you go, do take a tour with Fat Bikes Tour who also have tours in Barcelona and Paris. Be sure to do the former East German tour which includes Fernsehturm, Alexanderplatz, Brandenberg Gate, Berlin Wall, Hitlers Bunker site, Potsdamer Platz and Reichstag Building to list just a few.

Demanda Diamond and I took some time off to visit Heidelberg Germany, where her Great Aunt Frida still lives. It’s a small city about an hour from Frankfurt and is a must see for anyone who wants to see a beautiful city that avoided much of the devastation of the war. To be continued…my birthday in Berlin!
