Demanda and I showed at up Downrigging Weekend in 2006, only to find all the tickets for sailing had been sold weeks before. This year we booked early and were greeted with strong cold north winds, the remmnats Hurricane Noel. There are over a dozen tall ships that sail this event, held the first weekend in November. We sailed Virginia Schooner a 116 foot Schooner that would have made Errol Flynn proud. Errol owned an incredible sailboat about this size named the Zaca, which he sailed and lived till the very end. Disclaimer: I voted for Michael Nutter in the primary and gave his campaign $50 to boot. Since day one I have supported his plan for Stop and Frisk which is designed as a preventive measure for repeat offenders and getting the guns off the streets of Philadelphia. Sadly, our Mayor of Philadelphia, John Street and his Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson are reluctant for any such measure. So three Philadelphia policemen have been shot in less than 4 days and the last being the horrific assination of Officer Chuck Cassidy.
Citizens of Philadelphia, get out on Tuesday and vote for Michael Nutter. Given a victory, the next day I ask Mayor Street to call Mayor Elect Nutter and ask who he plans to appoint the next Police Commisioner. Give Sylvester Johnson an early leave and get the ball rolling for “Stop and Frisk”. It’s been on your watch as we see the murder rates climb to annual record highs.
