Philadelphia Red Bull Soapbox 2008

Hurricane/Tropical storm Hannah arrived to the Delaware Valley just as Red Bull Soapbox was about to launch on the fabled Wall of Manayunk Philadelphia. The rain held off till about a half an hour before the first run, but I did get enough footage of many of the contestants in the pit row. Look for a special downhill run by our great new Mayor, the honorable Michael Nutter.

Really great video. You captured some real characters there. I’ve got to make it down there for one of those…and the crash — spectacular. Plus, that background music cracked me up.

Hey Frank, thanks for stopping by. But sorry to pass along, this was probably a once in a lifetime Red Bull event. They’ve only done a couple dozen events around the world, mostly Flugtag. Have you been to the Manaynk bike race in June. Lot of fun too.

For the love of god, does no one have any video of Michael Jackson crashing at the bottom, jettisoning through the air? I would pay money for that video.

Awesome! I love the soapbox events they do; always a good time.

Went to their Soapbox Selection voting in SF last month. Gonna be a bunch of great cars out here in SF as well!

Wonder Boy, did I miss that? This was the most difficult shoot that I ever did, needed more cameras. I saw the guy fall off the big rock and got video of him being taken away but limited to what I edited. Thanks for stopping by the CraicHouse

Schlomo, I’m looking foreward to SF stuff if you shoot. Get to pit crew area before start, very accessable to meet. Race course will be a zoo!

Oh. My. God. This was hysterical! I did a double take when your site came up — “is that a grown man being birthed from a large, paper mache woman?” Good times, good times indeed. And no rain on the lens despite the torrents! Impressive :)

Oh.My.Gah. This is an awesome video. Great footage! I was all set to attend but a few too many drinks on Friday night and that little tropical storm thing kept me away. Now I totally regret it. I went to flugtag in Baltimore a few years ago, which was also fantastic. Would have been better to see it in good ol’ Philly though.

    Ahoy Jimmy !

Awesome job with your capturing of the various teams doing the hill ! Great sound quality and a clear video even during the soggy event.

You need to be in one of cars next year so you can capture the true feel of shooting the hill !
