Crackhead Breakup on Philadelphia SEPTA Trolley

I ran into a totally bizarre scene when I boarded a city bound trolley the other night. Now I’ve been riding SEPTA since 1972 and have seen a lot of kooks but this duo was crazy. It was already going on whe I boarded at 46th street but held off whipping out the Sanyo Xacti till the “lady” started slugging the “gentelman”. The ordeal lasted till City Hall and I pushed the paparazzi factor till I faced the two head on with same snappy results. Happy to say that there was no violence and a happy ending. The bitch dropped the loser, you go girl!

1983 Memorial Day Old City Philadelphia

I finally finished up one of the first videos I ever shot with the 2 piece RCA VCR and camera I bought in 1983. It was quite cumbersome by today’s standards and the battery life was quite short. My good friend Chris “Theo” Theodore led the interviews with some of Philly’s most colorful characters. The Sixers had just won the NBA Championship and Old City was in quite a Brotherly Love kind of mood.
Keep an eye out around the 2:40 mark for a ghost town of 300 block of Market St, years before any type of revival had started. Enjoy!

Obama Whistle Stop Train Philly to DC

It was 9 degrees Fahrenheit in Philadelphia this morning but I bundled up as best I could and took the 10 minute trolley down to 30th Street Train Station to catch the launch of Whistle Stop Train ride for President Elect Barack Obama. Without getting into a big history lesson, this is the route that Abe Lincoln used when he went Washington to be inaugurated. The Whistle Stop was making a stop in Wilmington Delaware to pick up Vice President Elect Joe Biden.

I almost didn’t get the last minute shot which would have rendered this video useless. I did not know what to expect, it was so cold, that it drained my battery down to a flashing empty sign just as the caboose was coming up and I didn’t think of the big train pole in front of me which blocked part of Obama. But, yes was out in the rear and rang the bell when he saw our small gathering. Politics aside, let’s all hope for a great 2009!

Phillies Win Championship, Remembering 1980

In 1980 I was working in Center City at a place called Gabriel’s Horn (next to the Academy of Music), that later became Marrabella’s. I can’t quite remember if they had a TV or not but I do remember watching game 6 either at the restaurant or the bar across the street. After the game logtime friend Skylor Lerman and I headed to Broad Street with my Nikon FM2 to shoot black and white film for the Drexel Triangle newspaper. It was a crazy night 28 years ago, at one point someone tried to grab my camera as I foolishly tried to climb onto someones truck. That night was not much different than this Vimeo video, shot on the same Broad Street area after the Phillies won the World Series last night. Amazing how many different video snapshots and perspectives one can get from looking at a certain event from the many file sharing websites.
I’m not so young and wild anymore but I did have fun watching at home and chatting up my many great friends on Twitter. Just wondering what the technology will be like the next time a Philly team wins a championship.

Cannstatter Volkfest Alt Weiber Mühle

Another videobloggingweek2008 has me salvaging some footage I took at the Cannstatter club last September. Alt Weiber Mühle loosely translates to “old women treadmill”. It’s an invention I hope will soon be invented!
